Woman commits suicide after poisoning her four children

QUETTA: A woman killed her four children by poisoning them and then committed suicide over a domestic issue in Quetta, Balochistan, on Monday, police and Edhi sources said.

The woman, identified as 35-year-old Fatima, was the wife of Abdullah, a labourer who was away from home at the time of the incident, police said.

Edhi sources said the deceased children were three-year-old Aleena, six-year-old Areena, eight-year-old Maheeda and 10-year-old Zahida.

On Sunday, another suicide case was reported in Balochistan’s Sibi district, where the son of Raja Mondarani took his own life due to domestic issues..

Balochistan has seen a rise in suicide cases in recent years.

The Balochistan government had constituted a 10-member committee to take stock of the rising cases of suicide in the provinces.

According to data, more than 50 suicides took place across the province in the last one year.

Psychiatrists based in Balochistan suggested that there are many reasons behind the suicide cases including domestic and financial issues. The sources in different hospitals said that there has also been a surge of attempted suicides in the province.
