Winter’s first rain hit Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan received its first winter rain on Saturday night, bringing relief from a two-month dry spell and a drop in temperatures across several regions.

Light showers were reported in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, the plains and urban areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab, including Talagang. Rain also fell in parts of Balochistan, including Quetta, and in Ziarat, where the cold intensified.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) had forecast rain and snowfall across most districts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan over the next two days. On Sunday, rain is likely in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Peshawar, Charsadda and Nowshera.

In the Islamabad, weather is expected to remain cold and partly cloudy, with possible rain and strong winds.

In Punjab, rain and thunderstorms with strong winds are forecast in Attock, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Chakwal, Talagang, Mianwali, Bhakkar, Noorpurthal and Layyah, with Murree and Galiyat expecting rain and snowfall in the mountains. Light rain or drizzle is expected in Sargodha, Khushab, Faisalabad, Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Multan, Jhang, Dera Ghazi Khan and Toba Tek Singh.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, most districts will experience cold, partly cloudy conditions, with rain and snowfall expected in mountainous areas including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Malakand, Buner, Kohistan, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Kohat, Kurram, Bannu, Karak, Dera Ismail Khan, Tank and Waziristan.

In Sindh, most districts are expected to remain cold and dry, with partly cloudy conditions in the upper districts. Fog is likely in Sukkur, Rohri, Shikarpur, Kashmore, Shaheed Benazirabad and Mohenjodaro during the morning and night hours.

Balochistan will experience cold, partly cloudy weather with rain, thunderstorms and snowfall in the mountains of Chagai, Noshki, Washuk, Panjgur, Kech, Godar, Kalat, Mastung, Quetta, Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah, Ziarat, Harnai, Chaman, Musakhel and Zhob. Rain and snowfall are also expected in Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
