Who was Renee Nicole Good

MINNEAPOLIS: Renee Nicole Good, a mother of three who recently moved to Minneapolis, was shot dead inside her car by a US federal immigration agent on Wednesday, an incident that has sparked protests and renewed debate over the conduct of immigration authorities.

According to international media reports, Good had just dropped her six-year-old son at school and was driving back home with her partner when their vehicle encountered agents from US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The circumstances surrounding the shooting are under investigation.

Renee Nicole Good was originally from Colorado Springs, Colorado, and had studied in Virginia, where she graduated from Old Dominion University in December 2020 with a degree in English. The university said she had won an undergraduate poetry award and was known for her creative writing.

Social media posts and university records described her as a poet and writer, as well as a devoted mother. Reports said her daughter is 15 years old, while her two sons are aged 12 and 6.

Colorado Governor Jared Polis expressed condolences, saying his thoughts were with Good’s family, friends and loved ones, particularly those in Colorado.

Good had moved to Minneapolis last year from Kansas City, Missouri, with her partner, according to her former husband, who requested anonymity citing concerns for their children’s safety.

Her mother, Donna Ganger, told local media that Good was living in Minneapolis with her partner and described her daughter as compassionate and caring.

“Renee was one of the kindest people I’ve ever known,” Ganger said. “She was loving, forgiving and an amazing human being.”

Family members have rejected claims that Good was involved in protests against immigration authorities. Her mother said Renee was not part of any demonstration, while her former husband said he had never known her to take part in protests.

The killing has triggered public anger and demonstrations in Minneapolis, with rights groups demanding accountability and transparency over the use of force by immigration agents.
