ISLAMABAD: Electricity consumers have reason to celebrate as WAPDA and the Power Division announce a new policy allowing the installation of multiple electricity meters in homes.
Under the 2026 policy, households can now legally install additional meters, a move aimed at benefiting large families, landlords, and tenants. The initiative ensures that each family or unit receives a separate, transparent electricity bill, promoting fairness and proper use of subsidies.
WAPDA has clarified that additional meters can be installed only in houses where each section has a separate residence, entrance, kitchen, and wiring system.
To apply for an extra meter, consumers will need to submit an identity card, proof of ownership or tenancy, an affidavit, and a check from the local distribution company (DISCO).
Officials say the new system will improve billing transparency and enable every family to pay only for the electricity they consume.
Under the 2026 rules, the installation of multiple meters is fully legal, giving legitimate consumers the right to opt for additional meters without any restrictions.
