WEB DESK: The Pakistan Navy has successfully conducted a test of a ground-to-air missile system, showcasing its growing air defence and unmanned warfare capabilities during a comprehensive naval exercise in the North Arabian Sea, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Saturday.
According to ISPR, the LY-80N surface-to-air missile was launched from a vertical launching system, accurately engaging and destroying an aerial target. The successful interception highlighted the Pakistan Navy’s robust air defence capability and readiness to counter aerial threats in a complex maritime environment.
The exercise was designed in line with the requirements of modern naval warfare and featured both conventional and unmanned combat capabilities. During the drills, loitering munitions were also employed to strike surface targets with precision, demonstrating effective and accurate strike potential.
In addition, the Navy carried out successful sea trials of an unmanned surface vessel (USV) in open waters. The trials marked a significant advancement in autonomous naval technology, with the platform displaying high speed, endurance, mission flexibility, agile manoeuvrability, precise navigation and reliable performance even in adverse weather conditions. ISPR said the system offers a low-risk, high-impact maritime capability.
The exercise was observed by the Commander Pakistan Fleet, while Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf lauded the officers and sailors for their professionalism and operational excellence. He reaffirmed the Pakistan Navy’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the country’s maritime defence and national interests under all circumstances.
