KARACHI: The Pakistani rupee (PKR) registered a mild gain against the US dollar (USD) during early trading hours on Friday (October 31), with the USD to PKR exchange rate showing a slight improvement in the interbank market.
By mid-morning, the rupee was hovering around Rs280.70 in the interbank market, up by Re0.22 or 0.08 percent compared to Thursday’s close of Rs280.92. Dealers said the movement reflected minor adjustments driven by routine inflows and limited corporate demand for dollars.
So far in the current fiscal year, the PKR has strengthened by Rs2.84 or about 1.01 percent against the greenback. However, when measured from January, the local currency remains weaker by Rs2.37 or 0.84 percent, showing that recent stability has only partially offset losses from earlier in the year.
Global cues weigh on sentiment
In international markets, the US dollar held firm in early Asian trade after touching a three-month high. The greenback’s resilience followed a volatile week shaped by mixed central bank signals, uneven tech earnings, and early signs of a possible easing in US-China trade tensions.
