WASHINGTON: State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller affirmed that the United States maintains a neutral stance concerning any political party or candidate in Pakistan.
During a media briefing in Washington, Miller addressed a question regarding the meeting between US Ambassador Donald Blome and Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja, emphasizing that the United States had no intentions of influencing the forthcoming elections in Pakistan.
“United States does not take any position with respect to the outcome of an election in Pakistan,” Miller stated unequivocally. “We do not support any one political party or any candidate in Pakistan. But we, of course, urge free and fair elections in Pakistan, as we do throughout the world.”

When asked for further details regarding the mentioned meeting, Miller suggested referring to the U.S. embassy for specific comments. He added, “I’m sure they will be happy to provide that information. But I think I see where you are going with the question.”
Responding to a separate inquiry, Matthew Miller noted that the United States is in favor of reforms aimed at bolstering the Pakistani economy.
