UK braces for impact as Storm Goretti triggers weather bomb alert

LONDON: Cold weather conditions continue across the UK as a deep area of low pressure brings further snow, strong winds, and heavy rain. Amber weather warnings have been issued, alongside more widespread Yellow warnings.

The strongest winds linked to the system are expected to impact the Channel Islands and northern France, which is why the storm has been named Storm Goretti by Météo-France. Strong winds are also forecast to affect southern England and Wales, with particular concern for southwest England. An Amber warning is in force for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

The weather system may also bring significant snowfall, with the heaviest accumulations most likely across Wales and parts of the Midlands. Additional alerts have been issued in these areas, advising residents to avoid unnecessary travel.

Heavy rain poses an added risk, especially in parts of Wales and eastern England, as Storm Goretti continues to move through the region.

“Storm Goretti will be a multi-hazard event, with the most significant impacts from snow in parts of Wales and the Midlands, though rain and strong winds also have the potential to cause widespread disruption,” said Met Office Chief Forecaster Neil Armstrong.
