SHARJAH: It’s time for cricket enthusiasts in Pakistan and elsewhere to prepare their backs for gluing to the sofas before the TV screens, as the Tri-nation series opens tomorrow (Friday) with an Afg vs Pak clash at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

Pakistan’s 17-member squad will step into the arena under the leadership of Salman Ali Agha, who has captained the team in 18 matches.

The third team in the Tri-nation series is the United Arab Emirates (UAE), while the final will be contested between the top two sides on Sunday, 7 September.

All matches will be staged at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

Pakistan announced its squad for the tri-nation series on Aug 17, featuring Fakhar Zaman, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf, Saim Ayub, Khushdal Shah and Hussain Talat.

Since arriving in the UAE on 20 August, the squad have held training sessions and practice matches in Dubai to prepare for the competition.

According to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the tri-nation series offers all three teams’ valuable preparation ahead of the eight-team ACC Asia Cup, scheduled to take place in Abu Dhabi and Dubai from 9 to 28 September.

In head-to-head, Afg vs Pak T20I encounters have been held seven times, with Pakistan winning four, while their only T20I against the UAE came in the 2016 Asia Cup, which Pakistan won.
