The verdict was pronounced by Shahrukh Arjumand, Special Jude Central, who awarded multiple sentences under different legal provisions. Under Pakistan Penal Code Section 409, both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment each. Combined with other convictions in the case, their total sentence amounts to 17 years each.

What Is the Toshakhana-II Case?

According to the prosecution, Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi visited Saudi Arabia in 2021, during which they received a Graff jewellery set as an official state gift. The couple retained the gift, maintaining that they paid 50 percent of its assessed value. However, investigators alleged that the jewellery, valued at over Rs70 million, was deliberately undervalued at Rs5.8 million through pressure exerted on appraiser Sohaib Abbasi via Imran Khan’s former secretary Inamullah Shah, causing losses to the national exchequer.

The case was initially pursued under the National Accountability Bureau law. NAB approved the investigation on January 7, 2024, and filed a reference in the accountability court on August 19, 2024. Following the restoration of NAB amendments by the Supreme Court of Pakistan, the case was transferred to the Federal Investigation Agency on September 9, 2024.

The final hearing in the Toshakhana-II case was held on October 16, after which proceedings were adjourned three times before the verdict was announced.
