Four killed in Kharan district

QUETTA: Unidentified militants killed four members of the same family, including three brothers, in a remote mountainous area of Kharan district in Balochistan.

The militants also kidnapped four other members of the same family.

Deputy Commissioner Kharan Munir Ahmed confirmed the incident, saying all those killed and abducted belonged to the same family and were local residents.

According to police, the attack took place early on Wednesday morning in Khokab, a desolate hilly area of Patkan Tehsil, about 70 kilometres east of Kharan.

Due to lack of communication networks in the area, police received information late.

DSP Kharan Police, Gul Muhammad Gurganari, said the victims were nomads living in tents.

The abducted were identified as Sabir, son of Nadir Khan, and Sanaullah’s three brothers — Bahadur Khan, Nokar Khan and Ahmed Khan.

According to police, all the victims belonged to the sub-clan of the Mohammad Hassani Baloch tribe.

The bereaved family did not immediately inform the police, who learned of the incident through other sources. Police later recorded statements from the victims’ relatives, but no one was nominated in the case.

According to the DSP, the motive behind the attack remains unclear. Investigations are under way from multiple angles, he said.

The Kharan district deputy commissioner said that tribal disputes are common in the area, but the exact cause of the incident has yet to be determined. He added that police are probing tribal enmity, terrorism, and other possible factors.
