Nintendo has released a new trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, confirming the arrival of two fan-favourite characters and revealing that the film will hit cinemas earlier than planned.

The latest footage offers the first official look at Yoshi in the upcoming animated sequel. The character’s appearance had previously been leaked last year through promotional packaging, but this marks Yoshi’s first confirmed on-screen debut in the new film. The trailer also confirms that Birdo will be joining the Mario universe in the sequel.

The trailer premiered during Nintendo’s The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Direct, a short presentation that also confirmed the movie has now entered post-production.

Alongside the character reveals, Nintendo announced a change to the film’s release schedule. Previously set to be released on April 3, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will now arrive two days earlier, on April 1.

The sequel continues the franchise’s high-profile voice cast. Chris Pratt returns as Mario, with Anya Taylor-Joy voicing Princess Peach and Charlie Day as Luigi.

They are joined by Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr., Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek and Brie Larson as Rosalina.

The first Super Mario film was a major box office success, and anticipation has been building around how the sequel would expand its roster of characters. The addition of Yoshi and Birdo, both long-requested by fans, is expected to add to the excitement ahead of the film’s newly confirmed April release.
