Taylor Swift reveals how she spent her Eras Tour money

Taylor Swift has shared how she used the earnings from her record-breaking Eras Tour, revealing that the profits allowed her to make what she described as her biggest and most meaningful purchase yet: owning her music masters.

Speaking on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on December 10, Swift said the tour’s success gave her the opportunity to finally regain control of her original recordings after years of public dispute over their ownership. She credited her fans for making it possible, saying their support directly enabled her to buy back her music.

Swift confirmed earlier this year that she had acquired her masters from Shamrock Capital, the investment firm that purchased them in 2020 after Scooter Braun’s Ithaca Holdings sold the rights to her first six albums. At the time, she described the moment as the fulfilment of a long-held dream, saying she had always wanted the chance to own her work outright, without restrictions or partnerships.

The Eras Tour, which became the highest-grossing tour in history, sold more than $2 billion in tickets, according to figures reported by The New York Times. Swift told Colbert that reclaiming her music was something she never assumed would eventually happen, making the achievement all the more significant.

During the interview, Swift also reflected on how transformative the tour proved to be beyond its financial success. She said it had a profound impact on those involved, including her touring crew, who collectively received nearly $200 million in bonus payments.

The singer added that the scale of the tour’s reception surprised her, noting that she initially attributed the demand to years without touring and the release of multiple albums. It was only after hearing fans describe their concert experiences that she realised the emotional effect the shows were having.

Swift said her goal with the Eras Tour was to offer audiences a genuine sense of escape, something she believes was only possible because of the connection fans brought to the experience themselves.
