Suspicious bag with weapons and explosives found on Trail 5

ISLAMABAD: A suspicious bag containing weapons and explosives was discovered on Trail 5 in the federal capital on Sunday.

According to police, the bag contained hand grenades, pistols, and batteries. The Islamabad police have taken control of the park.

Sources have indicated that the area surrounding the park, including key government buildings and the entire locality, has been cleared by the Bomb Disposal Squad.

Police and bomb disposal experts were investigating the suspicious bag found on the popular hiking trail.

The bag was spotted on Trail 5, one of the scenic routes in the Margalla Hills National Park, which attracts many visitors on weekends.

“We have cordoned off the area and stopped the trekking on the trail. The bomb disposal squad is examining the bag,” a police official said.

He said no one had claimed responsibility for leaving the bag and there was an indication of any threat.

The park administration handed over the control of the trail to the police, who were also checking nearby buildings for any signs of danger.

Islamabad police have taken control of Trail 5 from the local administration, the sources said.
