WEB DESK: Thirteen Pakistani United Nations Police (UNPOL) officers, including three women, have been awarded the United Nations Medals for their exemplary service with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).
Deployed across five key locations, Bentiu, Bor, Juba, Malakal, and Wau the officers have played a critical role in maintaining community safety, mentoring local police forces, protecting civilians, and promoting law and order in one of the world’s most challenging peacekeeping environments.
The United Nations has formally commended the contingent for their “excellent service” and professional dedication, noting their contributions to stability and trust-building in conflict-affected communities. The participation of women officers has been particularly praised, as it strengthens gender-sensitive policing, empowers local women, and aligns with UNMISS priorities for inclusive security.
Pakistan continues to be one of the largest and most consistent contributors to UN peacekeeping, currently deploying thousands of military and police personnel in multiple missions worldwide. This recognition highlights the high standards of discipline, resilience, and humanitarian commitment upheld by Pakistani peacekeepers.
The ceremony reaffirms Pakistan’s longstanding role as a reliable partner in global efforts to maintain international peace and security.
