South Africa defeats Sri Lanka in ICC Men’s T20 World Cup


South Africa defeated Sri Lanka by six wickets in the fourth match of the CC Men's T20 World Cup at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on Monday.

The South African men’s team successfully chased down Sri Lanka’s target of 78 runs by the 17th over.

Quinton de Kock led the charge as the top scorer for South Africa. He scored 20 runs off 27 balls. while Heinrich Klaasen scored 19.

Sri Lanka’s captain Wanindu Hasaranga performed well as bowler, claiming two wickets for 22 runs, He was supported by Nuwan Thushara and Dasun Shanaka, who took a single wicket each.

However, South Africa’s bowlers restricted Sri Lanka to a mere 77 runs after the South Asian island nation elected to bat first.

Facing a strong South African bowling unit, Sri Lanka’s top order struggled. Pathum Nissanka managed to score a mere three runs before he was caught out.

Kusal Mendis was able to put up some sight, scoring 19 runs off 30 balls before falling to Anrich Nortje.

However, the rest of the Sri Lankan batting lineup fell like limp noodle. Captain Wanindu Hasaranga and Sadeera Samarawickrama left the crease without scoring a single run.

Angelo Mathews raised hopes with 16 runs but South Africans bowlers did not let him continue his streak.

In other matches alongside South Africa vs Sri Lanka, Namibia beat Oman via Super Over by eleven runs. Similarly, West Indies beat Papua New Guinea by five wickets.

Afghanistan will face off against Uganda today at 5:30 am local time, followed by England vs Scotland two hours later. The last match of the day will be between Netherlands vs Nepal at 8:30.
