Simon Cowell shades Ryan Seacrest in new interview

Simon Cowell has reignited interest in his long-running dynamic with Ryan Seacrest after admitting in a new interview that he does not follow the host’s career.

The 66-year-old TV judge appeared on The Interview, a podcast by the New York Times, where he was asked why he thought the former American Idol host remained “so popular”. Cowell did not have an answer.

“I do not know, actually,” he said. “He was very ambitious. And I do not follow his career if I am being honest with you.”

Cowell and Seacrest worked together on American Idol from its debut in 2002 until Cowell left the show in 2010. Their on-screen clashes became a defining part of the early seasons, though the pair were often said to be friendly off camera.

In the new interview, Cowell added that the two rarely speak now but said Seacrest has always been “steely” and determined when it comes to his career.

Reps for Seacrest have not commented on Cowell’s remarks.
