Sigourney Weaver has said her latest return to James Cameron’s sci-fi universe is the favourite project of her entire career, calling it the most fulfilling work she has ever done.

The 76-year-old actor, who plays Kiri, a 14-year-old Na’vi, made the comments during an appearance on Good Morning America, where she reflected on the freedom she felt while playing a teenage character under Cameron’s direction.

Weaver said the experience allowed her to trust her instincts fully and described the story as the most visceral and emotional exploration of the world of Pandora yet.

She explained that the film centres on the Sully family’s grief after the loss of their eldest son, set against the backdrop of war and prejudice. Weaver described the story as “intimate” and said she found the material “incredibly moving”.

The upcoming instalment is set for release on 19 December, with Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña and Kate Winslet returning to the franchise.

Despite not yet reaching cinemas, the film has already secured a Golden Globe nomination for cinematic and box office achievement. The first two films in the series remain among the highest-grossing movies of all time, with the original earning $2.9 billion worldwide and its sequel bringing in $2.3 billion.

Director James Cameron has previously said he plans further sequels, though he has joked that unresolved storylines could be wrapped up in a book if future films do not go ahead.
