WEB DESK: Ahead of its inauguration today, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Mohammad Ali Randhawa visited the Shaheen Chowk underpass project site and reviewed progress on various sections of the scheme.
During the visit, senior officials briefed the chairman on different components of the project, informing him that the underpass had been completed in a record 63 days. They said the facility would be opened to traffic later today.
Randhawa said the Shaheen Chowk underpass would provide signal-free movement, significantly easing traffic flow in the area. He added that the project would not only help reduce traffic congestion in Islamabad but would also ensure savings in both time and fuel for commuters.
The CDA chairman expressed satisfaction over the pace and quality of work, noting that the early completion reflected improved project management and coordination among departments. He said infrastructure projects aimed at improving traffic flow remained a priority, as growing vehicular pressure continued to strain the capital’s road network.
Officials said the opening of the underpass was expected to bring immediate relief to motorists using one of the city’s busiest intersections, particularly during peak hours.
Earlier on December 25, Randhawa had also inspected the Shaheen Chowk underpass, reviewing progress and construction quality. Officials said over 93pc work was complete and the project had entered final stages ahead of schedule, with major structural components finished and roadworks and finishing underway. Permanent decorative lighting was also being installed to improve aesthetics and visibility. Expressing satisfaction, Randhawa said the underpass is being delivered early without compromising standards. He reiterated the CDA’s priority of providing efficient, comfortable travel for residents.
