Security sweep ordered at QAU girls’ hostels

ISLAMABAD: After a man scaled a wall and entered a girls’ hostel at Quaid-i-Azam University, the university administration has taken a series of security measures, including ordering a technical sweep to check for hidden cameras and tightening patrols around women’s hostels.

The Islamabad police arrested the suspect — identified as Faizan Satti last Monday night after he allegedly climbed into Girls’ Hostel No. 5 and was later found inside a washroom around 2 am.

Police said that students raised the alarm, after which the lady warden and hostel security staff restrained him and handed him over to police. An FIR has been registered and further investigation is under way.

Following the intrusion, the university administration formed an inquiry committee to investigate the incident and announced that the FIR will be reviewed.

Security patrols have been increased inside and around the girls’ hostels, and a technical sweep ordered to search for any hidden cameras.

To strengthen safety further, approval was given to open Gate No-5 for female students on special occasions, and orders were issued for immediate repair and restoration of security lights around the hostels.

The administration also decided to deploy two female security guards at the hostels.

A coordination committee has been established to handle all matters related to the girls’ hostels, and the university announced plans to construct volleyball and badminton grounds for female students.

The AAU vice-chancellor has approved the implementation of all directives.

Students had expressed fear and concern following the incident, questioning how the man remained inside the hostel for around an hour before being noticed and apprehended.
