SC begins hearing of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto reference case

ISLAMABAD: A nine-member bench, led by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, has started the proceedings of the much-awaited hearing on the Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto reference.

Chief Justice will be joined by Justice Tariq Masood, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, and Justice Yahya Afridi, Justice Aminuddin, Justice Jamal Mandukhel, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar, Justice Hasan Azhar Rizvi, and Justice Musrat Hilali complete the distinguished lineup.

Bhutto reference hearing adjourned

In the lead-up to today’s proceedings, written arguments were solicited from judicial assistants during the previous hearing, setting the stage for comprehensive legal deliberations. The significance of this hearing has not gone unnoticed, with Sherry Rehman, a prominent leader of the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP), expressing optimism and hope for a favourable outcome.

“Our lawyers will be present in today’s hearing, and Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto will attend as a party to the case,” she said.

Reflecting on the broader implications of the case, Rehman raised poignant questions about the impartiality of the justice system and expressed aspirations for justice to be served.

“The stain on the judiciary in the past will begin to be washed away,” she asserted, alluding to the party’s enduring commitment to democracy and the rule of law.
