Samsung trends as its memory proves best for Google’s AI chips

ISLAMABAD: South Korea’s tech giant Samsung became a top-trending topic in Pakistan on Tuesday after reports revealed that its HBM4 (High Bandwidth Memory) chip was rated the best in the market by leading companies, including Nvidia, Google, and Broadcom.

According to reports, Google, in collaboration with Broadcom, is developing its own Tensor Processing Unit (TPU) to handle the company’s growing AI workloads. This new hardware relies on HBM4 technology, prompting Broadcom to test HBM4 chips from the three major manufacturers currently capable of producing them: Samsung, Micron, and SK Hynix.

Samsung’s HBM4 chip reportedly delivered an operating speed of 11 Gbps, the fastest among all tested chips. It also demonstrated superior thermal performance, a critical factor for high-bandwidth memory used in AI applications.

Broadcom conducted these evaluations in a system-in-package (SiP) environment, where logic chips and high-bandwidth memory are integrated into a single package. This test represents the final stage before HBM chips are deployed in AI processors.

With Nvidia, Google, and Broadcom all recognising Samsung’s HBM4 as the best in its segment, global demand for Samsung’s advanced memory solutions is expected to rise significantly, potentially increasing prices, revenue, and profits for the company.
