Social media influencer Samiya Hijab has once again found herself at the centre of online debate after posting a new dance video on Tuesday. The clip, in which she performs to Talwiinder’s song “Pal Pal” in a TV lounge, quickly went viral, drawing thousands of reactions and sparking widespread discussion.
In the post, Samiya captioned the video: “Life when nobody’s son is ruining your mental health.” While the video gained attention rapidly, many users criticised her content, targeting both her dance and her clothing. Some comments accused her of posting such “controversial” videos repeatedly, while others described her outfit as inappropriate.
The backlash prompted Samiya to disable comments on the video post. However, her activity continued the following day when she uploaded another dance video. Once again, the post attracted criticism, with one user remarking: “Plz don’t shit on social media.” Despite the flood of negative feedback, she has not yet turned off comments on this latest post.
Amid the criticism, some supporters defended her, suggesting that much of the backlash stems from societal attitudes in Pakistan. One user wrote: “I think it would be better if she never revealed which country she is from, because 95% of people are hating her for being independent and seeing that she’s doing whatever she wants makes them jealous.” Others offered advice, encouraging her to focus on modest dressing while continuing her content creation.
Samiya, who first gained notoriety after a private video of hers leaked, has often spoken out about the attention she receives. She previously remarked that media coverage frequently revolves around her, and while some accuse her of seeking fame deliberately, others speculate she might even leak her own videos for attention.
The ongoing debate around Samiya Hijab highlights the challenges faced by public figures in Pakistan’s social media landscape, where the line between personal freedom and public scrutiny often sparks heated conversation.
