Robots wearing Ghutrah wow visitors with traditional Ayyalah dance in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi witnessed a glimpse of the future as robots took centre stage at the ongoing Autonomous Week, running from November 10 to 15. While self-driving marine vessels and flying taxis drew attention, it was humanoid robots that truly captivated visitors.

Among the crowd-pleasers was a small, playful robot wearing a traditional Emirati Ghutrah, performing the men’s Ayyalah dance. Visitors joined in with sticks and song, celebrating the nation’s President, while cameras captured the unlikely performer.

The robot, created by Chinese company Booster Robotics, is part of their Booster K1 line. Designed for education, professional assistance, and entertainment, the child-sized humanoid stands 95 centimetres tall, weighs just 19.5 kilograms, and is priced from $5,999. Its dance moves are a highlight, and the robot has also proven its skills on the soccer field, having won the 2025 RoboCup Soccer ‘KidSize’ championship.

Videos from the event show the Booster K1 navigating Abu Dhabi’s streets, attracting curious onlookers and capturing imaginations. Booster Robotics also offers a larger adult version, the Booster T1, available in Basic, Standard, and Customised models. The company, which began operations in 2023, focuses on scientific research and educational applications for its robots.

This isn’t the first time robots have impressed audiences in the UAE. Earlier this year, a humanoid was present at a majlis with Dubai’s Ruler, waving to attendees. Alongside it, the Go2 robot dog made its debut, showcasing how robotics are steadily moving from science fiction into everyday life.

As Autonomous Week continues, these robots are not just showing off technology—they are giving a real taste of what the future might feel like.
