Sending “❤️” emoji can land you in trouble

Riyadh: The governments of Saudi Arabia and Kuwait have declared sending red heart emojis to females on social messaging platforms, including WhatsApp, as a punishable offence.

Kuwaiti lawyer Haya Al-Shalahi stated that individuals found guilty of this offence could face up to two years in prison and a fine exceeding 2,000 Kuwaiti Dinars.

According to Saudi cybercrime authorities, sending a red heart emoji without the recipient’s permission falls under the category of harassment, and individuals found guilty of this crime may face imprisonment from two to five years and a fine ranging from 100,000 to 300,000 Saudi riyals.
