Punjab abolishes multiple govt departments

LAHORE: As part of a cost-saving plan, the Punjab government has abolished several provincial departments and merged them into a single entity, according to a notification.
The Punjab government has merged the eight departments into the newly created Department of Food Safety and Consumer Protection.
According to the notification issued by the Services and General Administration Department, these institutions will now operate under the Department of Food Safety and Consumer Protection, which will become functional immediately.
The departments that have been merged into the Food Safety and Consumer Protection are Enforcement Price and Control, Food Cane Commissioner, Agriculture Economic Marketing, Institute of Agriculture Marketing, Consumer Protection Council, Punjab Sahulat Bazaar Authority, Punjab Halal Development Agency and Punjab Food Authority.
According to sources, these departments have been abolished under a cost-saving programme, under which surplus officers will also be transferred.
As per the notification, all merged institutions will have one secretary and one director general.
