LAHORE: Public transport fares across Punjab have been lowered after a recent drop in petrol and diesel prices, providing relief to commuters traveling between cities, multiple reports said on Thursday.
According to officials, the Punjab Transport Department has revised inter-district and intercity bus fares, with reductions ranging from Rs 60 to Rs 200 on various routes departing from Lahore.
Under the new fare structure, the bus fare from Lahore to Islamabad has been decreased from Rs 1,910 to Rs 1,850, while passengers traveling to Murree will now pay Rs 2,290 instead of Rs 2,370. Similarly, fares to Peshawar have been cut from Rs 2,610 to Rs 2,530, and to Mansehra from Rs 2,500 to Rs 2,420. The fare for Abbottabad has also been reduced from Rs 2,310 to Rs 2,240.
Shorter routes have seen adjustments as well. Travel from Lahore to Faisalabad now costs Rs 980, down from Rs 1,010, while fares to Sadiqabad have been reduced from Rs 2,510 to Rs 2,430. Long-distance travelers heading to Karachi will benefit from a fare cut from Rs 5,800 to Rs 5,620.
Transport officials said the revised fares reflect the decline in fuel prices and aim to ease the financial burden on passengers. Bus operators have been directed to implement the new rates with immediate effect.
