ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has announced a new framework for the use of Virtual Private Network (VPN) services in the country, allowing users to directly access services from officially licensed providers without requiring prior registration with the authority.
According to a PTA statement, the regulator has begun issuing licenses to VPN service providers under the Class Value Added Services (Data) category. Among the companies granted licenses are Alpha 3 Cubic, Zettabyte, Nexium Tech, Vision Tech 360, and UKI Connect Solutions.
The PTA said the move aims to simplify access to secure VPN services while ensuring user safety and compliance with national regulations. “This step has been taken for the convenience of users,” the statement said, adding that the initiative will help “promote safe and legal online connectivity.”
The authority said that only licensed VPNs may be used for legitimate and lawful purposes. It warned that using unregistered VPNs could increase cyber risks and undermine data protection.
PTA also noted that the new licensing regime will enhance digital security, improve data protection standards, and contribute to a more transparent and secure online environment. “The provision of VPN services under this framework will help strengthen national cybersecurity,” the statement concluded.
