Prime minister approves G-B’s caretaker cabinet

ISLAMABAD: The Prime Minister of Pakistan, acting as Chairman of the Gilgit-Baltistan Council, has officially approved the formation of a 14-member caretaker cabinet for Gilgit-Baltistan on the recommendation of the caretaker Chief Minister. The notification has also been issued.
According to the notification, the caretaker cabinet comprises a total of 14 members, including ministers and advisers. These appointments have been made under Article 48-A(2) of the Gilgit-Baltistan Government Order 2018.
The ministers in the caretaker cabinet include Sajjad Ali Baig, Engr Altaf Hussain, Ghulam Abbas, Colonel (retd) Abrar Ismail, Mehr Dad, Sharafat Din, Maulana Sarwar Shah, Raja Shehbaz Khan, Mumtaz Hussain, Dr Niaz Ali, Syed Adil Shah, and Bahadur Ali, while Syed Fatima and Abdul Hakim have been appointed as advisers.

The notification has been signed by Joint Secretary of the Gilgit-Baltistan Council, Sudhar Khan Khattak. Government sources said the caretaker cabinet will immediately assume its responsibilities and oversee administrative matters.
The caretaker cabinet is expected to ensure transparent, impartial, and fair elections in Gilgit-Baltistan while fulfilling its constitutional duties.
Political analysts say the establishment of the caretaker setup will play a key role in building confidence in the electoral process.
