President approves 90-day remission to prisoners in honour of Eid Miladun Nabi

ISLAMABAD: President Dr. Arif Alvi granting remissions to prisoners in honor of the 12th Rabiul Awwal, has reduced their sentences by a period of 90 days.
This remission, sanctioned in accordance with Article 45 of the Constitution of Pakistan, is not applicable to inmates convicted of murder, espionage, or anti-state activities.
Furthermore, it excludes cases involving robbery, theft, adultery, kidnapping, terrorism, financial crimes, and offenses causing losses to the national exchequer.

Additionally, foreigners convicted under the Foreigners Act 1946 and individuals imprisoned under the Control of Narcotic Substances (Amendment) Act 2022 will not benefit from this remission.
Male inmates aged 65 and above, female convicts aged 60 and above, and minors under the age of 18 who have completed at least one-third of their sentences are eligible for remission, provided their crimes do not fall within the aforementioned categories.
Dr. Alvi previously granted a 180-day remission to prisoners on August 14, 2023, in commemoration of the country’s 76th Independence Day.
