Govt likely to raise electricty prices by Rs2.07 per unit

ISLAMABAD: Electricity prices are now projected to increase by Rs2.07 per unit.

This comes as the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) requested a price hike, citing various factors affecting the cost of electricity production.

A hearing is scheduled for tomorrow to consider CPPA’s application for the proposed price increase. The hearing will specifically address the request for a hike in the July monthly fuel adjustment charges, which contribute to the overall cost of electricity generation.

As the energy sector continues to grapple with fluctuating fuel prices and operational costs, consumers are facing the prospect of higher electricity bills.

Recent demonstrations and protests against power price hikes led the caretaker government to hold consultations on potential ways to reduce bills. However, the outcomes of the meetings are yet to be announced or implemented.
