WEB DESK: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met on Friday with representatives of the consortiums that successfully secured the two new franchises for the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
The delegation included Hamza Majid of “OZ Developers,” which won the Sialkot franchise, and Fawad Sarwar of “FKS,” which secured the Hyderabad team. The Prime Minister congratulated the representatives on their successful bids and extended his best wishes for their new ventures.
Commendation for Transparency and Grassroots Development
During the meeting, PM Sharif commended the transparent bidding process managed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). “The live telecast of the bidding process for the new PSL teams is a clear testament to its transparency,” he stated. He specifically praised PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and the PCB management for conducting a successful and open event.
The Prime Minister emphasised the positive impact the expansion would have on cricket nationwide. “The inclusion of these two new teams will help promote cricket at the grassroots level and provide a platform for new talent to emerge,” he said. He added that the new franchises would “prove to be a breath of fresh air for the PSL.”
Highlight on Foreign Investment and Global Popularity
PM Sharif also highlighted the significant economic and international aspect of the bids. “It is highly encouraging that international firms came forward to bid for these two teams; this process has promoted foreign investment in Pakistan,” he noted. He connected this to the broader role of the diaspora, stating, “Overseas Pakistanis have always played a vital role in the country’s development.”
“The level of interest shown by domestic and international firms in the PSL bidding process is an indicator of the league’s popularity on the global stage,” the Prime Minister concluded.
The meeting was also attended by Federal Minister for Interior and PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar.
