Pakistan’s political future hinges on these five people sitting together: Rana Sanaullah

ISLAMABAD: Advisor to the Prime Minister Rana Sanaullah has said that improvement in the country’s current political situation is only possible if the five major political personalities come into direct contact with one another and sit together to build mutual trust.

Talking to a private TV channel, Rana Sanaullah said that no real breakthrough could be achieved through grassroots-level political contacts alone, stressing that serious engagement among top leadership was indispensable to easing political tensions.

He expressed optimism about the year ahead, noting that just as Pakistan witnessed positive progress in the economic sector in 2025, there is hope that 2026 will bring further stability to the country.

Rana Sanaullah said that meaningful dialogue is essential to lower the political temperature and move the country forward. He also raised concerns over what he described as an organised campaign against state institutions being run through certain social media accounts. He said such accounts should be shut down and added that the PTI leadership could not absolve itself of responsibility by claiming it has no control over them.

He said that if these accounts are being used for propaganda, their focus should be limited to political opponents rather than state institutions.

Commenting on the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) call for a protest on February 8, Rana Sanaullah termed it a failure in advance, saying it would neither lead to a standstill nor yield any political gains, but would instead cause further losses. He warned that any attempt to disrupt traffic would be met with a strong response and urged the PTI to withdraw the protest call.

Rana Sanaullah reiterated that trust-building among the country’s five major leaders is crucial. He said these include former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, President Asif Ali Zardari, PTI founder Imran Khan, and another key national figure. He made it clear that without serious communication among these leaders, no major political progress should be expected.
