ISLAMABAD: In what was anticipated to be a batting paradise, the pitch at Hyderabad threw a curveball, offering unexpected turns and bounces. Pakistan’s start was shaky, with Fakhar Zaman spooning a return catch to Logan van Beek, hinting at the pitch’s unpredictable nature. The Dutch bowlers, especially Aryan Dutt and Logan van Beek, capitalized on the conditions, keeping the Pakistani batsmen on their toes.
However, the tide began to turn when Mohammad Rizwan stepped onto the crease. With his positive intent and impeccable timing, he started stitching a partnership with Saud Shakeel. The duo showcased a masterclass in batting, navigating through the tricky conditions and the relentless Dutch attack. Shakeel, in particular, shifted gears, hitting boundaries at will and making the early losses seem like a distant memory.
But the Netherlands had their moments too. De Leede’s fiery spell saw him claim crucial wickets, putting Pakistan on the back foot. Yet, Pakistan’s lower order, especially Haris Rauf, showed grit, pushing the score to a respectable 286.
Roelof van der Merwe, reflecting on the Dutch performance, praised the team’s execution and fielding. With the pitch expected to favor the batsmen under lights, it’s all set for a thrilling chase.
