ISLAMABAD: The widely-used social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, has been inaccessible for the second consecutive day across Pakistan, impacting millions of users and hindering communication channels.
According to reports from Downdetector.pk, a leading real-time internet and social media outage monitoring service, X has been unavailable in Pakistan since 9 pm on Sunday night. Users have voiced their grievances, citing difficulties in accessing tweets and new posts on the platform.
Individuals attempting to reach X are met with an error message indicating that the site cannot be reached, exacerbating frustrations among the user base.
Both Downdetector.pk and Netblocks, a UK-based Internet watchdog, have confirmed the shutdown of X in Pakistan. This disruption has been noted multiple times in recent days, significantly affecting online activities in the country.
The timing of this service interruption is particularly significant amidst the backdrop of the upcoming general election in 2024, where digital platforms play a crucial role in disseminating information and facilitating public discourse.
This isn’t the first time X has faced technical difficulties. In May 2023, the platform experienced a global outage, prompting widespread complaints from users worldwide.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has kept a silence and issued no statement regarding the disruption.
Meanwhile, Elon Musk, had said in 2022 that X, formerly Twitter, needs to abide by the laws of the land otherwise the platform will simply be shutdown in those countries.
