Pakistani pediatric specialist Dr Faiqa Qureshi killed in US car accident

ISLAMABAD: Professor Dr Faiqa Qureshi, a pediatric emergency medicine specialist and daughter of former Pakistan Air Force chief Air Marshal (retd) Noor Khan, has died in a road accident in the United States, family sources said.

They said Qureshi’s vehicle was involved in a traffic incident earlier this week. US authorities have not yet issued full details of the accident, and the family said they were awaiting confirmation regarding the cause and circumstances of the crash.

Qureshi worked in pediatric emergency medicine and was regarded as a senior clinician and academic in the field. She had also taught medical students and trainee doctors during her career.

Colleagues and former students said she was known for her professionalism in clinical work and for her role in medical training.

Tributes posted on social media by medical professionals in Pakistan and abroad expressed condolences to the family.

The Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters in the United States said in a statement that it was saddened by her death and described her as a committed pediatric physician.

Her father, Noor Khan, served as chief of the Pakistan Air Force and later held senior administrative positions in civil aviation and sports bodies in Pakistan.

Members of the Pakistani community in the United States and doctors’ associations in Pakistan also issued condolence messages following reports of her death.

Funeral arrangements were not immediately announced.
