ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and the United States have agreed to strengthen collaboration between their law enforcement agencies, including enhanced cooperation in police training, to combat fake and fraudulent visa networks.
The decision was reached during a meeting held in Islamabad on Saturday between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker. The two sides discussed ways to deepen bilateral relations and expand cooperation in areas of shared interest.
During the talks, it was agreed that joint operations would be launched against visa fraud and forgery networks under clearly defined standard operating procedures. Discussions also focused on curbing illegal immigration and improving the effectiveness of the pre-immigration clearance system.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said the government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy toward agent mafias involved in illegal immigration and visa scams, adding that Pakistan welcomes US support in addressing the issue. He noted that he is personally supervising actions against fake visa operators and stressed that passports have been made more secure through the use of modern technology.
Describing illegal immigration as a serious challenge, the minister said a nationwide crackdown is underway against individuals attempting to enter the United States through unlawful means. He added that improved enforcement measures have led to a 47 percent reduction in illegal immigration, warning that those involved in document forgery and fraud will not be shown any leniency.
On the occasion, US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker reaffirmed the importance Washington places on its relationship with Pakistan. She said both countries share common priorities and that increased cooperation would further strengthen bilateral ties.
