Pakistan to re-verify SIMs nationwide, disable international roaming

PESHAWAR: A decision has been made to re-verify mobile SIMs across Pakistan, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, using the Multi-Finger Verification System, according to senior officials in Peshawar.
The decision was taken in a meeting held in Peshawar, chaired by the Chief Minister KP, to deliberate on the prevailing peace and security situation in the province. The committee saw the participation of military top brass as well as senior civil officials.
A document shared with the participants reveal that so far, 80,624 mobile SIMs have been blocked in the province by authorities while over 4 million inactive SIMs have been blocked in total the entire Pakistan.
Actions have been taken against 8,629 retailers and 95 franchises for having unauthorised SIMs according to the official document that adds that 24 employees from private mobile companies have been dismissed, with 5 arrested.

The documents also mention that Pakistani SIMs will not operate on roaming in Afghanistan and other countries.
Furthermore, only one SIM card can now be activated on a single passport.
