LAHORE: Pakistan have announced their national squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup, with Salman Ali Agha appointed as captain. The announcement was made during a press conference addressed by captain Salman Ali Agha, head coach Mike Hesson and chief selector Aqib Javed.
The squad features a mix of experienced campaigners and emerging talent as the team looks to make a strong impact at the global event.
Senior batter Babar Azam has been included in the lineup, alongside Fakhar Zaman and Faheem Ashraf, adding depth and experience to the batting and all-round departments. Young opener Saim Ayub and Sahibzada Farhan have also earned places, reflecting the selectors’ focus on an aggressive top order.
In the bowling department, pace spearheads Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah will lead the attack, supported by Shadab Khan’s all-round abilities. Mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed has also been named, strengthening Pakistan’s spin options for varied conditions.
The squad also includes Khawaja Muhammad Nafi, Muhammad Nawaz, Muhammad Salman Mirza, Usman Khan and Usman Tariq, providing balance across batting, bowling and fielding units.
The announcement signals a new chapter for Pakistan’s T20 side under Salman Ali Agha’s leadership, as the team prepares to face the world’s best in the marquee tournament. The Pakistan Cricket Board is expected to outline the team’s preparations and schedule in the coming days.
Pakistan will begin its T20 World Cup campaign against the Netherlands on February 7. The tournament is scheduled to run from February 7 to March 8, featuring top teams from across the globe.
As part of its preparations for the World Cup, Pakistan will play a three-match T20 international series against Australia ahead of the tournament.
