Nicki Minaj calls herself Trump’s ‘No. 1 fan’ as she pledges six figures to back savings scheme

Nicki Minaj and Donald Trump

Nicki Minaj has doubled down on her support for President Donald Trump, calling herself his “No. 1 fan” while pledging hundreds of thousands of dollars to support a Trump-backed savings scheme during a high-profile appearance in Washington.

The Grammy-nominated rapper appeared at a Treasury Department-hosted summit on Wednesday alongside Trump and US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to promote so-called Trump accounts, a government-backed initiative aimed at encouraging early wealth building for children.

During her remarks, Minaj said criticism of her political stance has only strengthened her support.

“I will say that I am probably the president’s No. 1 fan,” she told the audience. “And that’s not going to change. The hate or what people have to say does not affect me at all. It actually motivates me to support him more.”

Minaj said she plans to contribute between $150,000 and $300,000 to the initiative, adding that access to a programme like this earlier in life could have changed her own future.

“If I had access to something like this, my whole life would have been different,” she said.

What are Trump accounts?

Trump accounts, formally known as Section 530A accounts, were created under recently passed tax and spending legislation.

Under the programme, the US government deposits $1,000 into an investment account for every child born between 2025 and 2028, once parents opt in while filing their income taxes.

Could Minaj’s fans benefit?

It remains unclear who would receive a share of Minaj’s contribution. The New York Post, which first reported the pledge, suggested the funds could benefit her fanbase, known as the Barbz, though no official details have been confirmed.

Neither the White House nor Minaj’s representatives responded to requests for clarification.

Ahead of the summit, Minaj described the initiative as “paying it forward”, saying early financial literacy and support could give children “a major head start in life”.

Trump praises Minaj at summit

Trump praised Minaj during the event, referring to her as the “greatest and most successful female rapper in history” and thanking her for donating “hundreds of thousands of dollars” to the scheme.

Minaj has become increasingly vocal in her support for Trump in recent years, despite previously saying in 2020 that she would not “jump on the Donald Trump bandwagon”. Last month, she made a surprise appearance at Turning Point USA’s annual conference.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said around 600,000 families have already signed up for Trump accounts since the start of the 2026 tax season.
