ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Minister for Energy, Power and Petroleum Muhammad Ali has said that a new electricity tariff will be introduced for traders before October 31.
Talking to the media, he said that discussions have taken place with traders in Karachi and before October 31, a new electricity tariff will be introduced for businessmen.
He, however, said that permission will need to be sought from the International Monetary Fund to reduce electricity prices.
He said that rampant theft and the increasing value of the dollar were the main cause of rising cost of electricity in the country.
The interim minister said that steps were being taken to curb electricity theft. He said that some officials have been replaced, and the process of recovery has also begun.
Ali said that efforts are being made to ensure the provision of gas for industries during winters.
