NEPRA forms committee to probe irregularities in electricity billing


The National Electric Power  Regularity Authority (NEPRA) sanctioned yet another increase in electricity tariffs, instituting a quarterly modification of Rs1.7432 per unit for the upcoming three months.

ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has taken serious notice of irregularities discovered in the billing of the distribution companies (DISCOs).

According a communique issued by the NEPRA, a high-powered committee has been formed to thoroughly probe these discrepancies, and present a comprehensive report within one month.

The communique said that chief executive officers of the DISCOs have provided clarity on these irregularities in the billing process and have emphasised that disciplinary action against relevant officials has already commenced.

New electricity tariff for traders on the cards

The NEPRA, through this initiative, aims to resolve the billing issues promptly and provide immediate relief to consumers, it said.

Based on the committee’s report, NEPRA will take legal actions against those responsible for the discrepancies found in the DISCOs’ billing.

The NEPRA expressed its commitment to ensuring transparency and accountability in the power sector, as well as safeguarding the rights and interests of consumers.
