MANSEHRA: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif will contest the 2024 general election from the National Assembly Constituency NA-15 Mansehra, according to his son-in-law Captain (retd) Muhammad Safdar Awan.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Safdar said that Nawaz Sharif will file his nomination papers on Thursday, December 21, and expressed confidence that he will win the seat and become the prime minister for the fourth time.

He claimed that Nawaz Sharif will address the issues of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which he said had been neglected for 24 years by the previous governments.

He also announced that PML-N Vice-President Maryam Nawaz will not contest the elections in Punjab. He said that Maryam Nawaz will run for both the national and provincial assembly seats from Punjab.

He further said that PML-N leader Amir Maqam will be the next chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, if the party wins the majority in the province.

NA-15 is considered to be a stronghold of PML-N, as Captain Safdar’s brother Sajjad Awan won the seat in the 2018 elections, while Captain Safdar himself had been elected from the same constituency in 2013.

Nawaz Sharif, who recently returned from London after medical treatment, was disqualified from holding public office by the Supreme Court in 2017 over corruption charges.
