LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) supremo, Nawaz Sharif, has issued directives for party leaders to kickstart preparations for the scheduled elections on February 8, 2024.
This announcement came during a meeting at the PML-N’s central secretariat in Lahore, where he was warmly received by party president Shehbaz Sharif, Senior Vice-President Maryam Nawaz, and other leaders.
Notable figures like Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Ahsan Iqbal, Senator Ishaq Dar, and Marriyum Aurangzeb were also present at the meeting. The PML-N’s election campaign has entered a new phase as Nawaz Sharif initiates discussions with party members.
The meeting delved into the party’s future political activities and the prevailing political climate in the country. Nawaz Sharif affirmed their commitment to continue the journey of development from where it left off.
This gathering marked Nawaz Sharif’s first meeting at the central secretariat since his return to Pakistan on October 21, following more than four years of self-exile in London. Following the meeting, Khawaja Muhammad Asif confirmed that Nawaz Sharif would contest in the upcoming elections.
Nawaz Sharif to start campaigning this week
Addressing concerns raised by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) regarding a level playing field, Asif stated, “Everyone has a level playing field; there is no unfairness.”
The Supreme Court has ordered the government to ensure the timely conduct of general elections on February 8, in response to multiple pleas seeking elections within 90 days of the assembly’s dissolution. The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has also issued a notification confirming the election date, with no objections from any party.
Nawaz Sharif’s presence in the PML-N’s secretariat in Model Town indicates the commencement of his political activities this week. He will oversee an important meeting regarding the issuance of party tickets for the upcoming general elections.
As the PML-N gears up for the elections, Nawaz Sharif plans to embark on a whirlwind tour of all four provinces, commencing with a public rally in Mansehra after November 10, and he is also scheduled to hold meetings with leaders of other political parties.
The PML-N is confident in its ability to secure victory in the upcoming general elections, with Nawaz Sharif aiming to serve as Pakistan’s prime minister for a fourth term.
