ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly on Thursday passed the Pakistan Land Port Authority Bill, 2025, paving the way for streamlined movement of goods and people across border crossings.
“The House discussed and passed the Pakistan Land Port Authority Bill, 2025. The Bill was moved by Minister of State for Interior & Narcotics Control Mr. Talal Chaudhry on behalf of Senator Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi, Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control,” read a post on the NA’s official X account.
Following approval by the Senate and assent by President Asif Ali Zardari, the legislation will allow for the creation of the Pakistan Land Port Authority — a statutory body tasked with coordinating among agencies to facilitate cross-border trade and travel.

Once implemented, Pakistan will become the third South Asian country, after Bangladesh and India, to establish such an authority. Bangladesh set up its Land Port Authority in 2002, while India followed in March 2012.
The bill had already been approved by the standing committee.
“The Pakistan People’s Party had reservations over the bill,” said Syed Naveed Qamar.
“We had proposed several amendments,” he added and presented the proposed amendments to the bill.
Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry did not object to the amendments. The amendments presented by Naveed Qamar were approved.
