Previously, the finance ministry was consulted for such decisions, but this will no longer be the case. The government will no say to raise or adjust the salaries and allowances of National Assembly members.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Finance Senator Salim Mandviwala has recommended amending the act to grant similar powers to the Senate, allowing it to increase the salaries and allowances of its members.

He has urged the finance ministry to include senators alongside National Assembly members in any future raise in salaries and other allowances.

He said that a bill to increase the salaries and allowances of National Assembly members has already been approved.
