Monday weather: rain, snowfall forecast across multiple regions


Heavy rain, snowfall alert issued for KP and Punjab

WEB DESK: A fresh weather system is set to affect large parts of the country on Monday, bringing cold conditions, intermittent rain, snowfall and strong winds to multiple regions, according to the latest forecast by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Balochistan and Upper Punjab are expected to experience partly cloudy weather with spells of rain and snowfall, accompanied by strong winds and thundershowers. Heavy rain and moderate to heavy snowfall are likely at isolated places in hilly areas. Rain with gusty winds and thundershowers is also expected at a few locations in South Punjab and Upper Sindh.

Going region by region, the PMD said that in Islamabad and surrounding areas, the weather will remain cold and partly cloudy, with strong winds and thundershowers likely during the evening and night.

Across Punjab, most districts will see mostly cloudy conditions. Rain with strong winds and thundershowers is expected at isolated places in Layyah, Bhakkar, Khushab, Mianwali, Sargodha, Sahiwal, Khanpur, Multan, Jhang, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar and Dera Ghazi Khan. Meanwhile, Rawalpindi, Chakwal, Attock, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur, Chiniot, Sheikhupura, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Faisalabad and Okara are likely to receive rain and thundershowers during the evening or night. Murree, Galiyat and surrounding areas will remain extremely cold, with rain or snowfall and strong winds expected in the afternoon. Light to moderate fog may develop in some districts during the morning hours.

In Sindh, cold and partly cloudy weather will prevail in most districts, while strong winds and thundershowers are expected in Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Dadu and nearby areas.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will also experience cold and partly cloudy conditions, with rain and thundershowers forecast in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Shangla, Kohistan, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Malakand, Mardan, Kohat, Kurram, Khyber, Hangu, Parachinar, Bajaur, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Tank, Karak, Dera Ismail Khan and Waziristan. Heavy rain and moderate to heavy snowfall are expected at isolated places in upper districts during the night.

In Balochistan, most districts will remain cold and partly cloudy, with rain or snowfall accompanied by strong winds and thundershowers expected in Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah, Noshki, Harnai, Zhob, Kalat, Barkhan, Sibi, Loralai, Bolan, Mastung, Jhal Magsi, Sherani, Turbat, Gwadar, Jiwani, Kech, Awaran, Chagai, Panjgur, Khuzdar, Washuk, Kharan and surrounding areas.

Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan are expected to remain very cold and partly cloudy, with rain and snowfall accompanied by strong winds and thundershowers. Heavy rain and moderate to heavy snowfall may occur at a few places in both regions.
