ISLAMABAD: Recent revelations stemming from the Mianwali Air Base attack investigation has revealed that the terrorists involved in the attack were using foreign weapons, underscoring the complexities and security challenges faced by the nation.
On Saturday in a swift response to a foiled terrorist attack on the Mianwali Training Air Base of the Pakistan Air Force, the Pakistan Army conducted a successful clearance operation, resulting in the elimination of nine terrorists.
The military’s media wing confirmed the incident, reporting that nine militants attempted to attack the air force training base, causing damage to three “non-operational” aircraft.
The security forces neutralized these assailants, with three militants being killed before they could breach the base, and the rest cornered before the commencement of the clearance operation. The statement did not mention any casualties among the security personnel.
The noteworthy aspect of this operation was the recovery of foreign weapons from the terrorists. Among these confiscated arms were American-made weapons, including RPG Seven, AK Seventy-Four, M16, and A-Four.

Security and defense experts have expressed concern about the open accessibility of US-made weaponry on Afghan soil, making them readily available to various groups. They have highlighted the prevalence of American-made weapons in Afghanistan, raising questions about their origins and the ease with which they are acquired.
The alarming fact that terrorists are using these foreign weapons from Afghanistan against Pakistan has deepened the security challenge. The utilization of foreign soil for attacks on Pakistan emphasizes the need for sustained vigilance and collaborative counterterrorism efforts.
The situation has escalated since the US withdrawal from Afghanistan, resulting in a notable increase in the usage of foreign weapons by terrorist groups. This incident isn’t an isolated case, as experts have pointed out a previous attack in Zhob Cantonment where American weapons and equipment were employed.
In response to these revelations, Pakistani authorities have emphasized their commitment to strengthening border security and international cooperation to prevent the illicit flow of weapons into the wrong hands.
The recent developments serve as a stark reminder of the multifaceted challenges faced in the region and the imperative for unified efforts to uphold peace and security.
