ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated the nation on the discovery of major oil and gas reserves in the Nashpa Block in Kohat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and praised the work of the relevant institutions.
A key meeting on the affairs of the Petroleum Division was held under the chairp of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, where the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) briefed participants on the roadmap for the petroleum and gas sector.
Prime Minister Sharif congratulated the nation on the discovery of major oil and gas reserves in the Nashpa Block.
Addressing the participants, the prime minister said that the discovery of new oil and gas reserves in the country should be among our top priorities so that the foreign exchange spent on importing petroleum products can be saved.
The prime minister directed that the oil and gas supply chain—from import to end users—be digitised on a priority basis. He said that digitising the supply chain of oil and gas transmission would help curb smuggling of these products and benefit the national exchequer.
The meeting was briefed that the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) had discovered major oil and gas reserves in the Nashpa Block in Kohat district.
It was informed that 4,100 barrels of oil per day could be extracted from these reserves, and that domestic consumers were being provided gas this winter at better pressure compared to last year.
The meeting was told that rapid work was under way on RLNG connections, and the target of 350,000 connections would be achieved by June 2026. Pipelines for the Shewa Gas Field and Bataani Gas Field have been commissioned, while work on the pipeline from Kot Palk gas field is ongoing.
