LAHORE: Fire at Gulberg hotel under control; six injured

WEB DESK: A fire erupted at a hotel in Lahore’s Gulberg area on Saturday, prompting the fire department to evacuate everyone inside. Speaking to media Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Operations, Muhammad Faisal Kamran said that six people are injured and are receiving treatment at Jinnah Hospital.
He stated that the fire began in the basement and was contained owing to due diligence and response of the rescue workers adding that everyone inside has been rescued. He said that the cause of the fire would be ascertained and assured that the blaze was under control.
The hotel, a 17-floor building with over 300 staff members, saw the blaze originate in its basement during a college event. Authorities quickly moved to evacuate both guests and staff, while some individuals remain stranded on the rooftop awaiting rescue.
Firefighting teams arrived promptly and are working to contain the fire. Officials have launched an investigation into the cause of the incident.
